Rhys Ifans Arrested at Comic-Con
No wonder he landed the role of villian in his latest movie The Amazing Spider-Man. Welsh actor Rhys Ifans has been arrested on suspicion of
battery after an alleged altercation with a security guard at Comic-Con in
California. Ifans appeared at
the annual pop culture event in San Diego on Friday (22 July) to promote his
upcoming action movie, in which he stars as the villain
Lizard. But he landed himself in
trouble for reportedly pushing a female guard after a member of his entourage
was found to be without proper identification.
Ifans was said to have cursed at
staff, prompting the guard to make a citizen's arrest.
San Diego police
spokeswoman Lt Andra Brown told Reuters, "He was abusive, belligerent
and aggressive, and shoved a female security guard." Brown added that the
Notting Hill star's breath "smelled like alcohol".
Ifans was issued
with a citation for misdemeanour battery and released. The San Diego City
Attorney will now decide whether to pursue further action. Bosses at Sony
Pictures, who are behind the Spider-Man movies, have issued a statement to
TheWrap.com insisting Ifans "deeply regrets the incident".
