Retreat & Surrender at Imar Spa

here is something deliciously decadent about grabbing your girlfriends and heading for a spa pampering break without the hassle of bustling airports and having to jump on a plane.

Welcome to Imar Spa, the ultimate getaway nestled in the coastal town of Umm Al Quwain and perched on a tranquil beach front.

This female only spa was launched way back in 1999 catering to women in the Middle East looking for some rest and relaxation while looking after their beauty needs – it moved to its new location a decade ago and has become a firm favourite amongst locals. It’s easy to see why, this hidden little secret has been a favourite of mine for a long time.

The philosophy at this stunning bolthole is simple – creating harmony between the mind and body with a range of decadent treatments ranging from facials and hammans to yoga classes.

It’s just over an hour’s drive from Dubai and caters for women who are just looking for a day-out experience or those that want to cash in on me-time and book an overnight stay at the tranquil hotel. Our top tip?  Splurge and book in overnight, it’s totally worth it.

It’s a scenic journey en-route and after pulling up at the hotel, which looks minimal from the outside, but explodes into a burst of candy colour upon entering reception. Think bright pink walls and electric lime brights with gold accents – you are definitely aware you are in girly paradise.

The staff are welcoming and take you through a quick tour of the expansive facilities, which include Café Bon Bon serving up a variety of healthy fare and fresh juices along with some indulgent treats for those wanting to let loose while reclining in luxury.

There is also a hair and nail salon that is perfect for pampering along with a fully equipped gym that you can hear music blaring out of for those that can muster the energy to burn some calories.

Check in for an overnight stay to get the most out of this experience. Trust me, you won’t want to go home after the smorgasboard of treatments. There are five rooms, each with a different theme, and rooms featuring twin beds for those that want to take their bestie along for the beauty boost ride.

Everything about the rooms exudes cool comfort exuding from the warm royal blue colours, heavy curtains and four poster beds.  It almost feels like you are back at (your fantasy) home. The doors open onto the private stretch of beach that is perfect for meandering early morning or late afternoon – it’s the ideal place to do some morning yoga.

Depending on your needs, whether it’s pampering or detox, the menu is exhaustive and features some of the best pampering treatments that I have ever experienced in the Middle East. The number one must-have is the unforgettable Moroccan Hamman - this is a firm favourite. This 75-minute treatment includes a jet shower prior to entering the tiled chamber that is whirling with steam. You will be slathered with mud and then scrubbed to make your skin baby soft, followed by buckets of water before being slathered in oil. Trust me, your skin will have never felt so soft and glowing.

This spa features the latest range of hi-tech treatments and equipment including Carita and Decleor products so you are guaranteed to look dewy.  Aside from the decadent treatments, it is the expertise of the therapist that will have you dozing off while being pampered.

If you are looking to lose a few inches, then try one of the Vichy treatments where you will be cocooned in heated blankets to boost circulation and help get rid of cellulite.

A huge drawcard of this spa is forget dressing to impress.  Staff encourage you to simply pad around in fluffy slippers and white robes to get the most of a relaxing experience which just adds to the Zen atmosphere.

If you want to take the guess work out of choosing a package, let staff tailor-make a programme for you or select from one of their smorgasboard of packages that can include stays ranging from five nights to seven nights.  Because you’ll want to stay as long as possible.

Info:Room prices start at 550 for single occupancy which includes breakfast and use of all the facilities.
