Since its conception, the boundaries of tradition have expanded like a happy waistband, and European influences have peppered Wheeler’s menu, with additions such as shrimp ceviche.
We’re utterly hooked on the juicy and plentiful Irish crab claws, stacked in a bowl like the many petals of a geranium. The perfect prawn cocktail tastes like nostalgia, with so many festive British dinners starting with this classic Seventies appetiser.

But it’s not all about fish. There’s carpaccio of beef with quail egg and hazelnut dressing among the starters and braised belly of veal among the six meaty mains. Vegetarians have their own section of the menu too, so everyone’s catered for.
For afters, try one of Marco Pierre White’s favourites: the bread and butter pudding. Or plump for the apple and blackberry crumble with clotted cream, the current dessert crush of Ahlan!’s Gourmet magazine Editor.

UK expats will relish this taste of home, and with plans to introduce some Arabian twists to the menu, Wheeler’s is set to be an epicurean beacon in the centre of DIFC.
