Restaurant Review: Umai, The Oberoi Dubai, Business Bay
Although Umai’s Chef Nakagawa is deservedly one of Ahlan!’s Hot 100 alumni, he has also earned a place on a much shorter list as one of only two chefs in the UAE who are licensed to prepare the potentially lethal dish of fugu. While the puffer-fish delicacy will undoubtedly attract diners of an impulsive nature, dishes such as Umai’s metre-long sushi platter demand simple appreciation, rather than nerve. Flanked by live cooking stations offering artfully prepared sushi, sashimi and teppanyaki, the modestly proportioned restaurant affords diners the sensation of being on a list almost as exclusive as the fugu chef’s.
