Restaurant Review: Toro Toro

Check out the new Latin American restaurant developed by Richard Sandoval

Competition is hotting up on Latin American eateries in this town with Toro Toro now open in the second Grosvenor House tower. Translating to bull, Toro Toro’s two-storey restaurant and bar concept was developed by hands-on Latin American chef Richard Sandoval, the same gent behind Mexican Maya at Royal Meridien. A central open kitchen framed by a striking orange Onyx wall greets diners, whilst grand circular tables dot the dark and intimate space. Flavours from Brazil, Peru, Argentina and Colombia are infused into dishes concocted for sharing, whilst the star of the show is a new take on the traditional churrasco grill. Premium cuts of meat, prepared by passadors are presented to diners and perfectly sliced onto a sizzling hot plate. Stagger up the wrought iron staircase to the new IT-bar in town complete with DJ that will no doubt rival Zuma’s. If one hot new destination wasn’t enough, the fashionable brains behind Buddha Bar have opened Siddharta Lounge right next door. A lift whisks you up to al fresco poolside lounging and bar chilling; head indoors and people watch over Mediterranean and Asian tapas. We’re glad for a new destination.
