This restaurant screams chic, from the padded black satin menus with their delicate silver embroidered logo to the efficient waistcoat-clad waiters. The view at night – Doha’s impressive sparkling skyscrapers – is allure enough, but the presentation of the food will steal your attention.
With an amuse bouche of deep burgundy beetroot broth served in a starkly contrasting white wide-brimmed bowl, the night gets off to a dramatic start. Our selected starter of poached oysters in foam with caviar on blinis comes decorated in a garland of ‘oyster leaves’. “You can eat those,” our waiter explains, “We import them from France and the delicate leaves taste like oyster meat.” He’s right. Who knew?!
For our main course, a seafood salad arrives at the table looking more like a showgirl with a plume of leaves creating a colourful arc around a pretty arrangement of plump fleshy salmon, prawns and lobster. And then for dessert, we get seriously involved with a warm apple tartin; perhaps it’s the gooey fudge caramel coulis, or the flirtatious Chantilly cream, but we decide there and then, we’ll be eating here again.
