They promise you a quintessential Thai experience at Al Qasr’s Pai Thai, and they certainly deliver. This is still one of the best venues for a romantic feast in the city, made truly splendid by what surrounds it. Even on a muggy night, you’ll find most people dining al fresco, with the Madinat’s beautiful waterways for a view.

When you finally tear your eyes off the fantastic scenery, the food is just as amazing. The sundried crispy beef with garlic and chilli sauce is the most flavoursome meat dish we’ve tasted in a while, with the hints of coriander making the chewy texture even more interesting. And you don’t have to be a vegetarian to appreciate the simple and winning combination of stir-fried morning glory and yellow bean sauce.

Finally, whether you choose to end with a traditional dessert (our pick’s the taro coconut pudding) or a contemporary one (can’t go wrong with the lemongrass crème brûlèe), the meal closes on the sweetest note. Perfectly in line with the très romantic vibe of the Pai Thai experience.
