Willowy drapes plus moody lighting lend atmosphere to the very refined space that is Nawwara. You can relax knowing that it’s somewhere you can settle in and chat for hours. Service is prompt and not too intrusive, so don’t worry about being interrupted mid-mouthful. The staff are well informed when it comes to the menu so you’re covered if you need guidance on what to eat.
There are generally no big surpises from what you’d expect in an Arabian restaurant in terms of food. But we were surprised with the twists they put on classics at Nawwara. The highlight for us was the signature mixed grill that was served churrasco style from skewers carved on to your plate. Portions were realistic, not over-sized or so tiny that they left you hungry. The skewers consisted of lamb, Halabi, shish taouk, beef sausage and shrimps with the latter two being the stars of the meal for us. The grill was paired simply with potato harra, which was all it needed to make for a wholly satisfying meal for two.
We rounded off our meal with a light and not overly sweet baklawa - it didn't leave us feeling as if we'd over-indulged. In fact, you’d be ready to head outside onto the terrace for drinks and sheesha or one of the JW Marriott Marquis' other excellent al fresco bars to continue the fun.
