When you pass dozens of fresh oysters on ice upon entering the contemporary restaurant designed in muted tones, you (and your grumbling stomach) know you’re in for a good meal. The Arabic restaurant (pronounced na-na) features a buffet every night, but on Thursday, it’s devoted to seafood. The restaurant’s signature spread of Middle Eastern delicacies – featuring dishes such as halloumi salad and fried eggplant and cauliflower – is displayed along with a feast of shellfish and cooked seafood. We dove into the salty sweet oysters with a pleasant cucumber-like aftertaste and followed it up with cooked mussels and clams in a white vino sauce. The muscles were large and not too chewy, the clams more delicate and flavourful and the broth infused with garlic and a hint of spice was a perfect pairing.
If you’re a lobster fan but can’t bring yourself to pay the hefty bill at a la carte restaurants, this is your time to indulge. The grilled Omani lobster tails were a standout and though we made a bit of a mess de-shelling them, the meat was a little sweet, just the way it should be.
