La Parrilla’s fantastic setting – perched on the 25th floor of Jumeirah Beach Hotel with spectacular views of Burj Al Arab – is what you first notice. But when your meal arrives, it’s the food that’s master of the domain. The magic began with the bread basket containing an ultra-fluffy focaccia so good we had to try it with all three kinds of butter served. Our proudly plump Spanish tortilla arrived in the cutest miniature skillet and had a gloriously homey taste just as the arepa (cornmeal bread) with duck confit contrasted doughy and meaty textures beautifully. Do mix and match the accompaniments that come with the tapas – our faves were the sundried tomato chimichurri and garlic jalapeno.

Mains predominantly equal meat here and our pick from the grill was the Australian Angus beef tenderloin. So juicy and amazing, we’ve got to say the good people at La Parrilla have perfected their steak cooking skills to an art.

And you can’t go wrong with the tree of churros with sumptuous sauces for dessert. Once the ‘tree’ is set at your table, a concoction’s poured on its base to create the effect of smoke rising – it’s just what they do to evoke the feel of a foggy Amazonian evening. Now, that’s some real ‘wow’ factor! All this is peppered with dancers tangoing across the floor to the liveliest Latin tunes. Carpe diem and head to La Parrilla for an outstanding dinner and show.
