Restaurant Review: Ketchup Dubai

Restaurant Review: Ketchup Dubai

05 Sep 2013

Think beef bonanza and American classics!

Downtown Dubai is where it’s all happening on the dining scene these days, and restaurants are popping up along Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard quicker than we can count! The urban foodie paradise now has a Hollywood A-lister in its midst with the opening of Ketchup – a 50s-style American diner backed by actor (and Steve Jobs lookalike) Ashton Kutcher.

The menu is burger-heavy, so heavy in fact that to mark the opening, the restaurant is challenging you to eat a kilo of burger and fries in eight minutes. You could try your hand at the ‘stack burger’ any Saturday during September and win a Dhs200 voucher and your name in the Ketchup hall of fame.

If you don’t fancy yourself as the next Takeru Kobayashi (Japanese competitive eater capable of eating a pizza in less than a minute, for those of you who don’t know), there’s the famous threesome of fries – old bay shoestring, garlic Parmesan and sweet potato – served with their signature flavoured ketchups – 5 types!

Ketchup is all about US beef in the form of steaks that include strip loin, tenderloin and bone-in rib-eye, and succulent basted ribs. Classic American desserts like key lime pie and New York baked cheesecake round off the menu. Executive Chef Jorge Da Silva has moved in Michelin and San Pellegrino circles, so we’re hoping to see more gourmet than gimmick at this latest Dubai offering.
