Restaurant Review: JW Steakhouse, JW Marriott Hotel

A steakhouse with real character. Macho-types adore the sheer masculinity of the high-backed, large, leather armchairs and polished wooden tables. Yet when combined with charming chalk board menus, retro light fittings, exposed brickwork, fading gramophones and vintage photographs, this much-lauded Dubai institution works for the daintiest of ladies too. It’s like visiting a comfy English country estate. The bar too looks like it has come straight out of a Sherlock Holmes novel. The butter-like steaks ensure the sustenance matches up to the setting, with surf-fans having the pick of Maine lobsters from a well-stocked tank or decadent Oysters Fine de Claire. Sides are equally accomplished with the creamed spinach, honey-glazed corn on the cob or crispy onion rings adding an extra dimension to the meaty mains. Those with a sweet tooth will find it more than satisfied due to the sharing-friendly gargantuan portions of Chocolate Trilogy or New York Cheesecake.

HOT TIP: Eat here enough and you can leave your mark, literally speaking, as they etch your name on the table for all to see.
