Hidden within the walls of the new hotel behemoth that is the JW Marriott Marquis on Sheikh Zayed Road, walking into Izakaya (meaning sit-down sake shop) is the nearest you’ll come in Dubai to a real taste of Tokyo. Guaranteed you won’t find a dedicated ‘Wasabi Girl’ in any other eateries of its ilk. Along with the freshly made wasabi there’s authentic Japanese noodles, robatayaki, teppanyaki and sushi all prepared by Japanese chefs who really know what they’re doing. Try one of the two private tatami dining rooms for a touch of Tokyo-style dining. Start with edamame, followed with some delicious tuna and salmon sashimi and you won’t be disappointed. For mains, the miso salmon is a joy with a side of vegetable tempura. Meat lovers have to try the grilled Wagyu steak on rice. For dessert dig in to the green tea tiramisu, finish with a peppermint tea and plan your next trip to try the rest of the mindboggling menu.
