Ahead of The Ivy’s opening in Dubai in 2011, London expats were practically salivating in anticipation – the Soho version, after all, is one of the most famed restaurants in the country and attracts more celebs than you can brandish a baguette at. Luckily, they haven’t been let down. The Emirates Towers haunt attracts its fair share of DIFC suits, who can be spotted tucking into a steak at the bar, while the gastro-pub-style menu and quintessentially British décor (think Chesterfield sofas, leadlight windows and cosy booths) keeps everyone from couples on first dates to lads out for a meal coming back.
The signature Ivy burger is testament to the restaurant’s commitment to using only the best ingredients. It’s refreshingly honest – no fancy sauces or finishes, just juicy beef bursting with flavour, topped with good old fashioned tomato, onion and dill pickle. Classic desserts are given a twist – the apple and raspberry crumble, drizzled with warm custard will turn even the most staunch dessert-dodgers. Some of the most charming service in town rounds off the experience – waiters who’ll happily chat about their addiction to the thick-cut chips (and whose suggestion to dip them into the Hollandaise sauce that accompanies the Dover sole we applaud) and who’ll expertly run you through the vino list without a hint of pretension.
