Stepping into Indo Thai is like being transported to a very exotic slice of Asia. Service is polite and fittingly discrete for the surroundings, which have an understated elegance reminiscent of a Japanese tea house, think wood panelling in sandy tones and screens sectioning off the vast dining space.
Food is a fusion of cuisines – from Indian curries and Indonesian specialities like Pandang chicken (succulent chunks wrapped in banana leaf that when unwrapped and dipped into a soy-based sauce are mouth-wateringly delicious) to pad Thai. What elevates the restaurant above its competitors is its attention to individual ingredients, so much so that each month one particular item features on a special seasonal menu that accompanies the standard one. When we visited, mango was the ingredient of choice, available in a cocktail form (a mojito with a twist), and as a selection of appetisers, mains and desserts. We opted to end our meal with the mango soup with coconut ice cream out of curiosity as much as anything else, and loved the freshness of the chilled ‘soup’ with the creaminess of the ice cream – very refreshing and perfect for those who don’t like their sweets too sweet. We’ll definitely be back to see what next month’s ingredient is!
