Steak lovers, come hungry. Gaucho – much more than just another Argentinean steakhouse – is the place for you. The DIFC location has been open for less than a year, but some diners might know Gaucho from the locations in the UK favoured by celebs like One Direction’s Harry Styles and members of Kings of Leon. If so, you’ll appreciate that the Dubai version sticks to the same cowhide décor and indulgent menu. Steak is the obvious choice, and servers explain – with a tray of cuts in hand – which steak will melt in your mouth at rare temperatures. We had a taste of the bife de chorizo sirloin and the 500g spiral cut tira de ancho rib-eye – so tender that our knife seemed more like an accessory than a utensil!
The selection of beef, cheese and chicken empanadas was a memorable start to the meal, as was the salmon ceviche – with just enough chilli and lime to give it kick. Although it’s hard to imagine a table full of vegetarians heading to Gaucho, our waitress assured us it happens and that the shiitake risotto is always popular. Two things to leave room for pre- and post-dinner: the cheese rolls and the dulce de leche fondant. As they say in Buenos Aires, delicioso!
