Set apart from the main hotel, Fish Bazaar feels like a departure from Dubai. The calm, al fresco setting has a good vibe thanks to the upbeat salsa music that wafts across from the neighbouring Cuban bar. Shortly after you take your seats a staff member will direct you to the seafood stall and explain the process: pick up a basket, choose your fresh fish or shellfish and then decide on a tasty style of preparation. There’s live lobster and crab on show so it would be hard to find fresher. We opted for jumbo prawns grilled with garlic and pepper and another set fried with coriander and garlic. The prawns were cooked expertly coming away easily from the shells and with a fleshy bite. The garlic was bold with a fresh note from the coriander. It’s easy to fill up on these alone, but make sure to dine in a group so you can try various dishes. A full fish is a must and simply fried with lemon butter, you’ll find yourself unable to put your chopsticks down. With well-priced vino, it’s the best mini-break you’ll get without leaving the city.
