Restaurant Review: Chop Suey, Jumeirah
INFO: Chop Suey, Beach Park Plaza, Dubai, 04 344 2212
Fewer words pair together more beautifully than ‘Chinese’ and ‘takeaway’. For TV-filled sofa night, Chop Suey is the menu you should be picking up. Firstly, the food comes in those cool white boxes like you see in the movies, so you can pretend you’re in one while you munch away. The noodles are the star of the show – wok-fried with a choice of vegetables, chicken or seafood and then pumped up with egg, garlic, oyster and chilli sauces. It’s filling and rich (I kept thinking peanut butter was somehow involved) and you’ll gobble the whole lot, guaranteed. As the name suggests, the restaurant serves that American-style invention, chop suey, which involves veg, chicken, beef or seafood with soy, oyster sauce, garlic, chilli and so on. While that part is deeply savoury and very pleasing to big fans of soy sauce, I couldn’t get my head around the accompanying fried noodles. If you’re keen on the classics, Chop Suey also has Peking duck, sweet and sour chicken and various types of fried rice. Get your chopsticks ready!
