Restaurant Review: China Grill

This modern Asian restaurant opened 27 years ago in Santa Monica from a model based on Wolfgang Puck’s Chinois concept of ‘Californian Chinese’. It’s since evolved into the pièce de résistance of fusion fare, combining comfort foods such as mashed potatoes and steak with exotic Far Eastern spices. Comprising a restaurant and lounge, complete with a DJ playing an über-cool soundtrack for a hip and happening ambience, this is a celeb magnet with outlets all over the US. The original in New York is frequented by George Clooney and Madonna, Miami draws the likes of Will and Jada Smith plus every supermodel known to man, and Mexico City’s branch has apparently hosted JLo and Denzel Washington. Now open in Dubai, this is a restaurant to see and be seen in, so dress the part and dine like the A-list! Try these picks from the outstanding menu…

Jalapeno- and Lime-Cured Scallops, Watermelon and Coconut, Dhs109
Boasting an off-the-chart taste, this is an explosion of flavour, combining sweetness with piquancy and a creamy zing that’ll blow your mind!

Kalbi Korean Short Ribs, Dhs295
A perfect pairing of marinated and barbecued meaty morsels that are fall-off-the-bone tender, paired with addictively good kimchi (Korean pickled cabbage).

Smoked Black Tea Chilean Sea bass, Thai Basil and Pomelo Salad, Dhs135
The tender fish flakes at the slightest touch and its light sweet glaze is perfectly balanced with the subtle and slightly sweet zing of pomelo.
