With the wide selection of restaurants in the UAE, we’re completely spoiled for choice. So when it comes to narrowing it down to just one style of cuisine, it’s not easy! That’s why we were delighted, almost relieved, when we booked our table at AZ.U.R restaurant at The Marriott Harbour Hotel in Dubai. With a menu featuring dishes inspired by Italian, Mediterranean and Moroccan cuisine, we knew straight away that this was the perfect restaurant for our indecisive taste buds!
Perched on the fifth floor of The Marriott, the restaurant is an indoor and outdoor haven. The terrace overlooks Dubai Marina and, even though we visited after nightfall, the panoramic views were spectacular. To take in the scene, head to the relaxed patio area where guests can recline on funky bean bags and enjoy flavoured shisha with a beverage.
Back inside the restaurant we were shown to our table and promptly presented with both the à la carte and grill menus. To start, we opted for the mezze selection to share, but it was a tough call between that, the virtuous vegetarian chef’s salad and the restaurant’s popular French onion soup. A complimentary passion fruit sorbet to cleanse our palates was just what we needed between courses.
Moving on to the main event, we kept it traditional, ordering the tagine of the day, which on this occasion was a choice of chicken or lamb. We went for the chicken, which was served with almonds and olives in a ceramic bowl and a portion of fluffy couscous. The meat was tender and the sauce was bursting with flavour but it was quite filling, so by the end of my meal I had to open the top button of my jeans! For a lighter option, we also tried the Atlantic cod with grilled vegetables. Despite overindulging, at the end of the meal we couldn’t resist the saffron crème brûlée with minted mango chutney – it just sounded too tempting to resist!
Service was swift and informative; our waiter was full of suggestions and detailed explanations. We enjoyed our meal and one of the great features about AZ.U.R is that the chefs’ stations are just behind a glass screen, giving diners a full view of the kitchen. Rest assured, what you see is what you get!
