If James Bond had a favourite place to eat in Dubai, Alfie’s Restaurant and Lounge would be it. Newly opened in Jumeirah Emirates Towers, it’s the latest culinary addition to men’s luxury label Alfred Dunhill. The brand – a wardrobe staple for Bond since 1963 – is synonymous with style and creativity.

Alfie’s culinary UAE venture is the third global opening after Shanghai and Hong Kong, with the flagship Bourdon House considered one of London’s finest restaurants. So, when word reached us that the Dubai location was open for business, we were there within 24 hours. We loved the VIP ‘Bond girl’ treatment at the door – very 007!

Looking at the starters, we knew instantly what to order. Anticipating a melt-in-the-mouth fusion of flavour, we opted for the pear, walnut and goat cheese salad, which more than fulfilled our taste buds’ expectations! And we were totally bowled over by the main event. Despite a brief bout of major food envy when we saw another diner’s giant grilled rib of beef (imported from Scotland), our supreme of seabass, lentil and mussel stew quickly laid to rest any doubts over our selection. Light yet filling, it was tasty and tender – absolutely spot on.

For dessert, the sherry trifle came highly recommended, but we opted to share the apple and rhubarb crumble, which we’re told has been a huge hit in the UAE.

The man responsible for our gastronomic pleasure, Chef de Cuisine Christopher Driver, previously worked for celeb chef Richard Corrigan in his exclusive Mayfair restaurant. His experience and passion for British cuisine came across in the presentation of our dishes, not to mention the fact that all produce is flown in from the UK!

With its sophisticated vibe, masculine edge and chic décor, it comes as no surprise that Alfie’s has already pulled in a trendy crowd looking for great food. Even the menu oozed luxury! When our meal was over we were looking to linger so the restaurant’s cigar lounge was the perfect place to retire for a digestif.

Considering you only live once, Alfie’s is definitely the closest we’ll ever get to enjoying the James Bond lifestyle!
