Register your Mobile SIM ASAP or Get Cut Off!
Remember those ads reminding you to register your mobile phone SIM? The deadline passed yesterday, so if you never got around to it you could be in for a shock!
The My Number, My Identity campaign, launched two years ago by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, urged all Du and Etisalat customers to pass their personal details on to their mobile phone service providers or face being cut off.
Since then, mobile-phone owners have been summoned in batches to Etisalat and du shops to update their data by certain dates, with Wednesday being the final deadline.
Etisalat had said that 95 per cent of customers had registered their SIM cards ahead of the deadline, but telecomms bosses say they'll disconnect users who've failed to obey the rules, so you'd better head down to your nearest phone shop sharpish.
All you have to do is pass by one of Du and Etisalat shops and present a passport or Emirates ID card at the counter.
We know Ahlan! readers love their smartphones, so we wouldn't want you to be left in a selfie-free zone over the coming weeks.
