Reel Review: Ultrasound Fat Melting

WHAT: Non-invasive painless ultrasound treatment designed to break down fat cells.

WHERE: Rebecca Treston Aesthetics, Euromed Clinic, Villa 611, Jumeirah Beach Road, Dubai, 04 394 5422,

HOW LONG: Sessions last around 60 minutes and three to five sessions are required for results.

HOW MUCH: Dhs2,000 each, with package deals available.

THE TREATMENT: Ultrasound waves pass into the body via a handheld device that’s brushed across the surface of the skin by a therapist. After absorbing energy, the fat cells burst and the fat is metabolised, meaning you can pee it out. The procedure is painless, but the high frequency pitch of ultrasound passing through the body can sound like nails down a blackboard.

Each session is followed by 11 minutes standing on a Proellixe vibrating plate machine. This prototype powerplate was used by NASA to test the fitness of astronauts before becoming a celeb fitness craze, with stars ranging from Gwen Stefani to Jennifer Lopez said to be Proellixe fans. Just 10 minutes on the Proellixe is equal to one hour of exercise in the gym, apparently!

THE RESULTS: I opted for a set of three treatments on my stomach. Measurements were taken around my waist at navel level, and at three inches above and below the navel, around the ribs and hips. Here are my stats:

The combined loss of 7cm didn’t quite translate to a full dress size, but I could see a slight improvement. This treatment isn’t going to dramatically change your body shape, but of all the “fat-busting” treatments available in the UAE, this is the only one I’ve tried that seems to have any impact. Exercise is key to this treatment; you’ll be wasting your money if you sign up for this expecting to shift kilos without doing any work yourself – you need to exercise to help metabolise the fat. Once you’ve reached a healthy weight, you could try this to shift those last bits of stubborn fat.

Watch my video to hear the ultrasound for yourself and see how this device melts fat in a demonstration using soap, which is produced from fat, and water, which accounts for approximately 70 per cent of the body.
