Recipe: Mint Chocolate Body Butter
MAKES 1 JAR
½ cup cocoa butter
½ cup shea butter
½ cup coconut oil
½ cup extra-virgin olive oil
1 to 2 tsp peppermint essential oil
2 tbsp cocoa powder
1 Prepare an ice bath by filling a large bowl with ice and fitting a smaller bowl inside. The inside bowl needs to be able to hold at least 4 to 5 cups of liquid.
2 Melt the cocoa butter and mango butter in a bowl set over a pan of boiling water. Be mindful that the bowl does not touch the water.
3 Add the coconut oil and melt until the entire mixture is completely liquid.
4 Remove the mixture from the heat.
5 Measure 5 teaspoons of cocoa powder into a small bowl. Add the peppermint essential oil and several tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil, until you have a paste.
6 Add the cocoa powder mix to the butter/oil mixture, along with the remaining extra-virgin olive oil.
7 Place the mixture into the chilled bowl set inside the iced bowl. Allow the mixture to cool for 10 minutes.
8 Remove the mixture from the ice bath and whip until stiff peaks form. If after a few minutes it does not seem to be thickening, return the bowl to the ice bath and whip there.
9 Store in an airtight jar and keep out of direct sunlight.
10 Apply generously to skin as you would a lotion. For the best effects, apply after a hot shower.
