Real-Life Wedding: Monochrome Marriage
Fashion and Beauty Director on ITP’s Cosmo magazine, Chee Mustafa married Michael Smith at their favourite hotel in Dubai in an uber-trendy black and white wedding...
The Venue: The Park Hyatt hotel opened not long after Michael and I moved to Dubai back in 2005 and it's always been our favourite hotel here, so it was the obvious choice for our wedding. We had a blessing, followed by a champagne reception in the Palm Garden and then moved into the ballroom for our evening reception.
The theme: The theme for our wedding was black and white and I really wanted to follow this through with the bridal bouquets and button holes. I found these amazing flowers called white Anemones, which have white petals and are black inside and my florist Sunflower (04 331 7477), created beautiful arrangements.
The dress: My wedding dress is by New York based Lebanese designer Reem Acra and I had it shipped over from America.
The accessories: My shoes were silver-grey satin, with a beautiful knot detail by Dior, my diamante headband was bought online at www.glitzysecrets.com, my underwear was by Agent Provocateur and my jewellery was from Cara at the Gold & Diamond Park.
The bridesmaids: I was really lucky to find these cute black and white strapless dresses from Zara, they fit perfectly with the theme and all my bridesmaids loved them.
The bride's hair and make- up: I’m very lucky that one of my close friends here in Dubai is the amazing hair and make-up artist Tanya Rex, so she was on hand to do both my hair and make-up on my special day, which was great. I also hired two professional Bobbi Brown make-up artists to do the bridesmaids make-up.
The rings: We had my engagement ring and both our wedding rings made at Cara Jewellers at The Gold & Diamond Park, 04 347 8089.
The groom's outfits: Michael wore a bespoke black suit, with a white raw silk waistcoat and matching cravat made at Hollywood Tailors in Bur Dubai, 04 352 4243.
His accessories: Michael wore black atent shoes by Dolce & Gabbana and he had silver cufflinks made at Cara for him and all his groomsmen with their initials.
The wedding planner: I didn’t use or need a wedding planner, I did everything myself and I loved every minute of it!
The photography: We were recommended Sue Johnston (www. imageoasisdubai.com) by a friend and Michael and I really liked her pictures, she captures natural, reportage shots really well.
The cake: The Park Hyatt made us a beautiful three tier plain white sponge cake and then I decorated it with a black satin ribbon. I also attached vintage inspired brooches to the bows.
Thinking back: The whole day was amazing and we both loved every minute of it. But now we do wish we had it on video to watch over and over again.
Glitches: We did have a couple of minor hiccups, but nothing that anyone else would have noticed and we were having far too much fun to worry about it.
Best bit: We really can’t pin point one bit that was the best part, as the whole day from start to finish was fantastic! The highlight is definitely having all your favourite people in one room and knowing that everyone is having a really good time.
