Restaurant Review: Qbara's New Brunch
Amazing presentation is part of the brunch offering at Qbara

From the opening platter of beautifully coloured crudités, cut, carved and sparkling like gems on a bed of ice, it was clear that vegetables were the star of the show in this vegan-friendly brunch. We ate varieties of plant life we didn’t even recognise, and the crispness and freshness in each bite was palpable. A butter bean crush, marinated olives, Arabian breads and an olive oil dip followed.
Of the 10 hot and cold starters then served in quick succession, five were vegetarian and not the usual dull options; there was a spicy green gazpacho with pomegranate, a tomato and watermelon salad with mint and fattoush with a twist of avocado. Meat-eaters were catered to with chicken liver, lobster kibbeh, cured salmon and crispy soft-shell crab with harissa.
We were then invited to pick one of seven mains, from beef fillet with potatoes to wild mushroom risotto, and one of five desserts – the bitter chocolate ice cream in white chocolate sauce was the clear winner.
Family-friendly, with a magician going from table to table performing tricks and a spot of live bongo music, this is a civilised and healthy alternative to the usual Friday feasting carnage – assuming you don’t opt for a bubbly package.
