The Powerpuff Girls Turn Fashion Icons
Cartoon-favourites the The Powerpuff Girls will take on a new life as in fashion as part of a new campaign launched in the UAE.
The Powerpuff Girls Fashion campaign will give students from the School of Textiles and Design a chance to see their Powerpuff Girl inspired creations on a professional catwalk at the campaign finale in May 2012.
The students will have their designs critiqued by industry professionals and brand guardians from Cartoon Network and Splash.
The rounds of judging will also feature the guidance from two Dubai-based style icons that will be mentoring the students throughout the selection process. Fresh from their inclusion in Ahlan!’s Hot 100 list, music maestro DJ Bliss and local radio star and fashion icon Simone Heng have already introduced themselves to the star-struck students at the campus.
Head of the School of Textiles and Design Vanessa Northway said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for students and we are delighted to be able to get involved and facilitate real life, commercial projects such as these. Experience in industry is invaluable for students in terms of preparing them for the world of work.”
Splash, the official fashion partner, will support the campaign by mentoring the students. In addition, Splash will present their fashion loving customers across the UAE with an opportunity to hit the catwalk at the campaign fashion show in May. Custom-designed photo booths will be installed in Splash stores as of April 2012 where fans will be able to take pictures and have their family and friends pass their votes online through project microsite and Facebook.
