Winner of Mum of the Year More Awards: CATHERINE CHILTON
Catherine is an amazing mother to Adam, aged 8 and Josh, aged 7. Two years ago, Catherine found an 8cm lump in her breast. Subsequently, she was diagnosed with late stage 3 breast cancer. Because of the severity of the cancer, both breasts were quickly removed. Catherine's initial and continuing thoughts were only for the welfare of her two boys, never once pitiying herself. Even through 28 sessions of extremely harsh chemotherapy followed by 28 daily trips back and forth to Al Ain for radiotheraphy, Catherine remained very active in her children's daily lives. To add to this, she became chairlady of the schools PTFA committee and worked very hard in raising funds for her childrens school.
Winner of Child of Courage More Awards: CHERIZE SHEKRI
Cherize is 15 years old, who from birth has had Celebral Palsy. Cherize also has Down Syndrome. Cherize has had six major surgeries so far in her life, all of which were extremely serious. To cope with the pressure of caring for a vulnerable child, Cherize's mother Arabelle had to give up her job in 2013 to take care of her daughter. Due to the severity of her illness, Cherize is confined to a bed on a permanent basis and has to be continuously monitored. For the last three years Cherize has also been on a ventilator support.
Winner of Outstanding Bravery More Awards: FIONA SENNETT
Fiona has endured so much over the last few years. She lost both of her parents in the UK within 12 months of each other. She and her husband Terry decided they wanted a life. They came to Dubai in January 2014 and took over the reins of a Scaffolding Training Centre here in Dubai. They quadrupled the turnover in just under 8 months only for the company to remove the funds they had created for the business. Terry decided to fund his own business venture himself here in Dubai. Despite the cost of the set up, the business became live on 15th Dec 2014. Three days later, Terry was struck down with a flu like illness which he presumed was just a cold. Terry had infact contracted an illness called Sepsis. On 20th Dec 2014, just 5 days after his business went live, Terry passed away at Saudi German hospital Dubai within 4 hours of being admitted. Fiona decided she was going to continue Terry's philosophy of saving peoples lives working in the scaffolding industry here in the UAE.
Winner of Teacher of the Year More Awards: ANNMARIE ROBERTSON
AnnMarie was nominated for this award by Stephanie Hamilton. Stephanie's daughter Ruby has Down Syndrome and AnnMarie is Ruby's learning support teacher at Horizon International School. Ruby requires a full time learning support teacher to help her achieve her full potential.
Winner of Lifetime Achievement More Awards: GARY RHODES
Gary Rhodes OBE is a man who has made a major impact in his profession over the past 30 years, not only here in Dubai, but also in the UK and around the world. Gary achieved his first Michelin Star aged just 26, at the time becoming the youngest recipient of this accolade in the UK. As well as owning multiple restaurants around the world, including 2 here in the UAE, Gary is one of the worlds most loved celebrity chefs and has hosted shows including Rhodes Around Britain and MasterChef USA.
Winner of Community Hero More Awards: ANDREA ALLEN
Andrea is co-founder of Out Of The Blues, a group that supports women who suffer from post-natal depression in the UAE and other Gulf countries. Andrea is also involved in a group that re-homes furniture, toys and clothes to families who are less fortunate. Not only that, but each Christmas, Andrea also runs an operation to help families in need and ensures that children and families in lower income households get a special meal and a gift at Christmas.
