Amara’s new spa ceremony comprises all you need for ultimate relaxation

A couple's treatment at Park Hyatt's Amara Spa is worth booking for the room alone. With a changing room, bathroom and an indoor shower centre-piece, plus a terrace and private outdoor rain shower, the suite is practically the same size as my JBR two-bed apartment, far more sumptuous and definitely not as messy.

To make the most of this haven, my partner and I indulged in the Regenerating Ruby Ceremony, a two-hour package available during the month of November. As well as comprising face and body treatments, the package provides access to Amara's stunning palm tree-framed swimming pool, steamroom and gym and includes lunch from a select spa menu.

So, my advice is to get there early to make the most of all the facilities. As soon as we stepped foot on the poolside, a helpful attendant raced to set up our sun loungers, moving them to a sun trap right by the water's edge at our request.

This was our base for the morning, with occasional dips in the tranquil pool cooling us down.

Then it was time for lunch and although we were initially dubious about the spa menu, with my partner especially concerned that the meal would be "too healthy and too small",  the portions of barbecued chicken and Amara salad we ordered to share were more than enough to satisfy and very tasty too.

In our slightly bedraggled but super-relaxed state we were then escorted to the spa and introduced to our therapists. After donning the obligatory disposable underwear, robe and slippers, we were led outside and introduced to the ‘ceremony' in the garden.

While performing a foot and hand rose petal bath, my therapist asked if I had any medical conditions or particular concerns I needed addressed during the treatment. I was pleased to find out she would tailor the facial to my specific needs, as I have found that you don't always get what best suits your skin when booking pre-devised packages.

We also chose our music from a special menu and opted for the ‘mediterranean' soundtrack, designed to be rejuvenating.

Back inside the couple's suite, we were asked to lay face down on the beds, which were firm, comfortable and heated. If these beds don't make you fall asleep, nothing will.

The Regenerating Ruby Ceremony then began with a back, neck and shoulder massage. My therapist used pressure point massage techniques and successfully managed, where others before have tried and failed, to loosen at least some of the tension in my shoulders.

My semi-slumber was only interrupted when I was asked to turn over for the Cryo-Therapy Age-Defying facial with Eye Brilliance from luxury French skincare brand Anne Semonin. Cryo-therapy may sound quite scary, but it's an entirely natural process - no facial freezing involved!

Firstly, my therapist examined my skin under a bright light before steaming it prior to the dreaded extraction process. I doubt anyone enjoys this part of a facial, including the poor therapist, but as they say, no pain, no gain.

Fortunately, the painful extraction was followed by a relaxing facial massage and the application of a series of beautiful-smelling lotions and potions to take away any stinging, including a scrub, firming eye mask and face mask.

While she let the face mask work its magic, my therapist performed a trick of her own with yet another sleep-inducing massing, this time on my scalp.

At the last stage of the facial, my therapist warned me that she was going to apply the ‘ice-cube'. Billed as "the new generation of neuro-cosmetics", these Express Radiance Ice Cubes obviously contain a lot more than frozen water. The effect is refreshing and tightening; the risk of them becoming a novelty product is avoided by the fact that you can actually feel them working!

The final moisturising serum was then applied and the words you never want to hear during a spa session - "you're treatment is finished" - whispered to me.

After examining our clean and clear complexions in the mirror, we relaxed outside with tea and dried fruits, left alone to enjoy the rain shower. Time your treatment to finish at sunset and it is a glorious way to end your spa experience.

Now I just have to wait to see what package the spa gurus at Amara have lined up for December....
