“I’d love to do a film in Dubai,” claimed Owen Wilson during a live interview at the First Group Theatre in Madinat Jumeirah today. The Royal Tenenbaums actor had earlier been presented with the International Star of the Year award at the 2011 Dubai International Film Festival as a packed-to-the-max audience applauded his achievement.
It was clear the ocean-loving, California-dwelling dude of the day felt some affinity with the emirate. Owen even admitted that he had already been swimming in the Arabian Sea at 2am this morning!
The award-winner went on to talk about working on Midnight in Paris with Woody Allen and Dubai came into the conversation once again. “I was nervous about working with Woody at first. He spent a lot of time checking global weather reports so, as my way of bonding, I would ask him, ‘where is the hottest place in the world right now?’. It was August, we were in Paris and the answer was always Dubai.”
Owen, who fathered his first child, Robert Ford Wilson, in January this year (2011) with Jade Duell, a former US air marshall who he met on a plane, didn’t comment on his personal life, but in June this year it was reported that his inability to commit had caused him to split from his baby mamma. However, he has since been spotted enjoying family days out with Jade and his son.
It would be no surprise if Owen has failed to commit. His previous relationship with singer Sheryl Cole also suffered as a result of what Owen termed “focus” issues. In a previous interview he was quoted as saying, “I don't think being in the spotlight had anything to do with me and Sheryl not working out. The story of our relationship is the same story I’ve had with most of my relationships. I was lucky enough to find a great girl and, because of my lack of... focus, the relationship went south.”
It is thought that Kate Hudson remains the great love of Owen’s life. Four years ago, following his split from his You, Me and Dupree co-star, Owen devastated family, friends and fans when he was rushed to hospital amid reports that he had overdosed and cut his wrists while suffering from severe depression.
Now 42, a father and winner of the International Star of the Year award, Owen’s future looks far brighter than it ever did in his thirties.
