Olly Murs speaks to Ahlan!
He may have been The X Factor UK’s runner up back in 2009, but since then Olly Murs went on to win the heart of the nation…then the world! Now the cheeky chappie, as he is often labelled, is bringing his charm (and catalogue of hits!) to the UAE, performing at Abu Dhabi’s du Forum next weekend. Ahlan! caught up with Olly ahead of his visit and, like most Brits, he’s looking forward to the warm weather more than anything else...
We’re excited to see you in the UAE!
Thanks, I’m excited to come. I haven’t been to Abu Dhabi, but I have been to Dubai a few times for a holiday and also a gig. It’s a great place. I’m hoping you’ll reserve the nice weather for me!
Besides performing, what are you most looking forward to doing in the UAE?
To be honest, I’ll only be in the country for 24 hours, so it’s a very short visit. Next time, hopefully I will be able to stay longer and see more of the sights. But I’ve heard the du Forum venue I’m playing is great fun. I’m hoping to try and blow the roof off it!
Have you got a summer holiday booked afterwards?
I am going on holiday with my mates next month around my birthday, which I’m looking forward to. I wanted to get a few weeks in before my summer tour kicks off, which starts in June.
Any festival plans this year?
I’m gigging every weekend this summer! I’m playing some new festivals this year that I haven’t been to before. I love a festival crowd, so am hoping I can have some fun at those.
You hosted The X Factor in 2015. Would you consider presenting on TV again?
I definitely haven’t ruled presenting out, as I loved it. But right now I’ve made the decision to focus on my music for the next year or so, and give it my all.
We’re not complaining! You’ve worked with people like Demi Lovato, Rizzle Kicks, Travie McCoy… Who’s next on Olly’s hit list?
I’d love to duet with another girl, since Demi Lovato was great fun to work with. Plus I’ve always said that I would love to work with Calvin Harris.
‘Fess up – who’s the most famous person in your address book?
Probably Simon Cowell, Robbie Williams or the One Direction lads…
Impressive! What’s the most bizarre thing you’ve ever read about yourself?
I read a lot of rubbish about me but the most bizarre is when I’m linked with people I’ve never even met!
When can we expect to hear the next album?
I haven’t started working on a new album yet, but there’s a lot of songs I loved that didn’t make the last record. After this summer of gigging I can look at getting back into the studio again.
