OKKU, H HOTEL, Dubai
On Fridays, Okku’s walls are decked with Eighties memorabilia. There’s also a TV showing classics from The Breakfast Club to Top Gun, not that you can hear them over raging hits such as Relax by Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Queen’s I Want to Break Free.
The trip back in time is fun, but the food is the star of the show. Gorge on miso cod, crispy duck salad, seafood sushi and soy and chilli sashimi, spicy battered prawns and chocolate fondant.
Forget bun fights at the buffet. All dishes are delivered to the table, along with magnums of your selected drinks.
All drinks are ‘purchased’ with Monopoly money. You get $100 per person; bubbly’s $150 per bottle, spirits cost $100 per bottle, grape’s priced at $25 per bottle and for hops you’ll shell out $50 for five. One of the things we love about brunch is not having to think about money, but luckily we had more than enough Monopoly dollars to get by. Drink up, though, as last orders on this ‘12noon to 6pm’ brunch are called at 4pm.
