The RTA are set to abolish the daily salik cap of Dhs24, which has been in place since the introduction of the toll system back in 2007.
Currently, there is a daily rate of Dhs24 and motorists are charged for only six Salik trips per day, even if they make more. However, the new ruling means that motorists will now pay Dhs4 for each toll gate trip that they make.
The Salik toll system was first introduced with two gates, Al Garhoud and Al Barsha in 2007, followed by Al Maktoum Bridge and Al Safa in 2008. Two more gates were added at Al Mamzar and Airport Tunnel earlier this year.
