The Dubai-based wit took his sense of humour onto some of the world’s top comedy stages last year, plus he also stepped into the spotlight at numerous prestigious awards podiums.
So what happened in 2012?
As well as developing my corporate comedy programme, Laugh Your Assets Off, there are so many highlights: being featured in Rolling Stone magazine as The Year’s Funniest Person; winning The Face of the Year at the Masala! Awards; finally taking my brand Komic Sutra to London; doing a six-day run at The Fringe; and performing on stages such as Carolines on Broadway in New York, Yuk Yuk’s in Toronto and The Comedy Store in London. All in all, 2012 had so many things I’m grateful for.
When did you first discover that you were a ‘funny man’?
I was a shy kid and would have a hard time even introducing myself to people. However, I found I could connect with almost anyone using humour.
What makes you laugh?
I still crack up when I see reruns of America’s Funniest Home Videos and every time I watch my idol, Jim Carrey.
How does your audience here compare to those in other countries?
I love the audiences in the UAE. It’s a melting pot of so many cultures. Performing here is like performing to a global crowd on a local stage.
What are your goals for 2013?
World domination! Jokes aside, a Bollywood movie is also on the cards.
