New York Steakhouse
Sitting in big comfy chairs surrounded by dark wood tables with dimmed lighting and candles on every table, sets the tone for a refined dining experience. And the chefs’ station in the middle of the restaurant, displaying the meat cuts of the day, completes the atmosphere of an authentic steakhouse.
Dunking our warm sourdough bread into the various dips, we started flipping through the menu and selecting our appetisers. Tuna ceviche, smoked burratta, Wagyu beef carpaccio and fresh oysters were ordered and arrived at our table in no time. The carpaccio was soft and thick and different from others I’d tried elsewhere but the winner was the smoked burratta. Thick, juicy roasted and pan-fried tomatoes topped with smoked cheese left us wanting more!
We then chose a US Black Angus fillet, medium rare. Before your steak arrives you get to select your knives, each tailored to a specific cut of meat! We also ordered mashed potatoes, spinach, glazed carrots, onion rings and asparagus as our sides. The steak was a thick piece of soft and velvety beef, cooked to perfection and so flavoursome that all five condiments on offer were rendered superfluous.
After all of this we still had a bit of room left for dessert and that was a good thing because you don’t want to miss out on the chocolate coulant coeur de guanaja. It’s a fondant served with peanut butter ice cream, caramelised popcorn and your own tube of caramel sauce.
New York Steakhouse has a wide variety of choices, knowledgeable staff and great service. It also offers an inexpensive kids’ menu along with crayons and activity sheets.
