New York Fashion Week Update: Marc Jacobs' Seventies' Show and Victoria Beckham's Double Triumph!
THE SHOWS
Despite the near delay to Marc Jacobs shows because of bad weather, his samples were finally flown in in time for his first show, Marc by Marc Jacobs on 12 February. With a colourful Seventies twists, the show kicked off to an energetic soundtrack. Geometric and leaf prints were key across jumpsuits, midi length skirts and cigarette trousers. Waists were tiny and nipped in with red silks and mink-coloured furs being the centre-point of the collection.
An army of models took to the catwalk for the second of Victoria Beckham's shows, this time from her sister brand Victoria, Victoria Beckham. The collection was more playful and relaxed than her mainline, including denim and schoolwear-inspired pinafore dresses. Cute button down printed blouses were paired with skater skirts and the print of an abstract lady was key throughout. Accessories came in the form of cute knitted hats. Glitter and sequins made an appearance towards the end showing that this is a much more fun collection than her mainline.
Elsewhere, Vera Wang experimented with graphic layers and sequins, Rodarte took inspiration from a Californian beach town and Jenny Packham (a favourite of K-Middy) created beautiful evening wear in hues of coral and reds.
THE FROW'ERS
Uma Thurman looked fab in neutrals at the Donna Karan show, while Katherine Heigl glammed it up in a black lace dress for the Reem Acra show where she was seated next to Vanessa Hudgens. Olivia Palermo didn't miss a show like a true fashionista, but otherwise celebs have been quite sparse this season. We're hoping they're all heading to the UK for London Fashion Week which begins on Friday!
