New York Fashion Week Update: John Galliano Makes His Comeback
There was plenty of hype surrounding the Oscar De La Renta show, with the revelation that John Galliano had been working in the studio alongside the ODLR designers to put his very own twist on the collection. This was going to be, in a way, his comeback to fashion after his famous dismissal from Dior in 2011. And it worked fabulously with Oscar's gowns showing just a hint of Galliano's influence to create one of his most elegant and beautiful collections yet. The colours were bright and the silhouette combined tiny waists with broad shoulders, (something that reminds us of the Dior silhouette from their Paris days). The finale consisted of two show-stopping gowns, one mulberry and one fuchsia pink. The partnership between La Renta and Galliano seems to be a perfect complement to their individual talents.
Elsewhere, Michael Kors combined camouflage print and block colour into his sports luxe looks, Milly went for metallic leather, combining pencil skirts with relaxed oversized shoulders and Marchesa brought Oriental style through as a trend for t he second season in a row.
There was a star studded front row at the Michael Kors show with Hilary Swank, Zoe Saldana, Jada Pinket Smith and, bizarrely, Michael Douglas all sat centre row. Miley Cyrus was out and about too, attending more than one show in a red Seventies' style jumpsuit.
