NEW LABEL CRUSH: THE VAMPIRE’S WIFE
When a handful of stylish celebrities start dressing in similar designs, the creator of which we haven’t yet heard of, we sit up and take note.
The Vampire’s Wife isn’t necessarily a new label but it’s slowly but surely developed a huge A-list following. Partly thanks to the actual designer, Susie Cave, wife of music legend Nick Cave. Susie started the label off as a small hobby mainly for her inner circle of friends. After the death of her son, Arthur, in 2015 the raven-haired beauty threw herself into work. The dress she created especially for Daisy Lowe’s GQ Awards appearance was the start of her therapeutic work, building The Vampire’s Wife into the cool go-to brand it is today. Now the collection includes suits, cashmere cardigans, blouses and pencil skirts, as well as the signature “street sweepers” as Susie refers to her full length dresses.
The feel of The Vampire’s Wife is quintessentially English, feminine with a definite ladylike gothic vibe and sultry. Florence Welch, an avid fan of the label, said: “As a musician, I worship Nick Cave, so I’ve always been fascinated by Susie as his enigmatic muse and inspiration. It’s been so beautiful to see the muse become the maker.”
