Bar Review: Noir, Kempinski

A decadent and new after-dark haunt that oozes cool

Silk and embroidery wallpapers sourced from Belgium, luxurious leathers from Germany and rich velvets from Paris - the decor is just to die for at Noir. Dark and brooding, this new club at Kempinski Mall of the Emirates is brimming with eclectic sculptures, limited edition photography prints from critically acclaimed photography including Anke Linz and Andreas Oettinger, and vintage chic curiosities from around the world -- and we love the glass dome of rare exotic metal blue butterflies from South America.

The art deco-inspired Blue Room with its blue glass chandelier oozes boudoir overtones, and the outdoor terrace, decked out in a peacock pattern, has a fireplace taking centre stage and classic pop culture films in black and white projected on the walls. Even the moody-hued staff uniforms have a story -- they've been created by fashion-forward UK brand All Saints.

Cocktail prices range from Dhs75 to eye-watering - the Noir Old Fashioned will set you back Dhs475!

There's also a Latin American and Asian fusion menu starting at Dhs40 a plate with dishes including cod fish coixotto and scallop toradito, though it's perhaps a little too smoky inside for food.

We're most looking forward to Noir Moonlights - planned monthly full moon parties, and of course, while we're trampling the tiles at Mall of the Emirates during January's annual Dubai Shopping Festival, it's reassuring to know there's a retreat nearby.
