Natasha Richardson has died of severe brain trauma following what appeared to be a very minor skiing accident on the nursery slopes of the Mount Tremblant resort in Canada.
Having toppled over during a beginners lesson with a skiing instructor, the Maid in Manhattan actress got up, laughed off the incident and refused any medical attention before being escorted back to her hotel room by the instructor.
An hour later the mum-of-two complained of head pain and headed to a nearby hospital. 48 hours she had passed away, hours after her life support was switched off on Wednesday morning at her home in New York.
The 45-year-old had been airlifted to New York from her Canadian so family and friends could make their final goodbyes. Her sister, Nip/Tuck star Joely Richardson had flown in from the UK and Natasha's mother Vanessa was already in the city.
The star's devoted husband, Liam Neeson and their two boys Michael and Daniel - are "shocked and devastated" by the loss of their "beloved Natasha" and have asked for privacy during this very difficult time.
