Natalie Portman will be playing the new female Thor it has been confirmed
It's been a while since we've been graced with Portman's incredible acting in the Thor franchise after she went on a hiatus following 2013's 'Thor: The Dark World.'
But she will once again join the brilliant cast and this time as 'Mighty Thor,' or basically the female version of Thor in the fourth movie directed by Taika Waititi. How cool is that?
Waititi made the announcement at Comic-Con in San Diego, California on July 20th, and revealed the new film would open in late 2021.
Just announced in Hall H at #SDCC, Marvel Studios’ THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER with Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson and Natalie Portman. Taika Waititi returns as director. In theaters November 5, 2021. pic.twitter.com/7RRkOYWTQM— Marvel Studios (@MarvelStudios) July 21, 2019
"The storyline is incredible, is full emotion, love, and thunder and introduces for the first time, female Thor." Waititi explains about the upcoming Thor movie called 'Thor: Love and Thunder.'
Portman's last appearance on the 2013 'Thor: The Dark World' has made things on-screen a little complicated, with her absence in 'Thor: Ragnarok' explained as a break-up between Thor and Portman's character 'Jane Foster' in the movie.
We've been super curious of her character in the new movie, but as of now, Marvel is keeping Portman's role (along with basically any information about the film) as top secret for now.
On the comic book side of things, Jane Foster literally becomes the female Thor after the original Thor becomes unworthy to wield his hammer.
We're still not sure if the filmmakers will follow a similar plot, but we can only imagine how exciting it will be.
