My Life On a Plate: Melissa Gilchrist Higgins
As a winner of both Ahlan!’s Hot 100 and Best in Dubai awards this year, it’s quite obvious we’re already fans of Melissa Gilchrest Higgins for her commendable humanitarian work. She’s the brains (and beauty) behind Frontline Fashion, an online magazine that blends style and philanthropy, as well as a clothing and accessories range – Zanmi – with profits used to fund a Haitian orphanage. With all these incredible projects on her plate (excuse the pun) we’re glad to know she still has time to eat. Here’s her day in food.
I’m up pretty early so I’m not hungry right away, but I make a big pot of coffee to keep me going until it’s breakfast time. Along with that, I take all my daily vitamins and get ready to kick-start the day.
I’m a massive fan of poached eggs and eggs Benedict and if I’m attending a breakfast meeting, I will try to schedule it at MAKE Business Hub to treat myself. I’ll accompany this with some freshly squeezed orange juice and a green tea.
I start to feel a little peckish around now. I drink lots of water throughout the day so this tends to keep my appetite at bay. I’m a big fish and seafood fan (langoustine – yum!) so something like smoked mackerel or sardines is quick and easy and allows me to get on with my day. I’ll also have some food doctor seeds while I’m working at my desk.
If I’m at home, I’ll pull together chicken and vegetables or steak and salad. We try to stay away from starch later in the day. If my hubby treats me to a night out, then I think Okku is still firmly at the top of my list. I can’t even pick a fave from their menu – I love it all.
With Christmas just around the corner, I am dreading the festive chocolate oranges as I tend to eat a whole one in one go – can I count that as one of my five a day? I’m also determined to perfect my chocolate orange macaroons this year
