Mum Arrested After Suicide Bombing Threat in Dubai

Woman walked into Dubai Public Prosecution and threatened to blow it up

A stand-off which saw a woman claiming to be wearing an explosive belt threaten to blow herself up has ended after 13 hours.

The woman, who is said to be Uzbek, walked into the busy Dubai Public Prosecution building with her five-year-old son at 12.15pm on Sunday (1 September). The 32 year-old was wearing a black abaya, which she then removed to show a belt of explosives.

She threatened to set them off if her demands were not met, causing panic in the building which was  evacuated and cordoned off.

It has been reported that the woman whose husband is in prison, was asking to meet His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

It has also been reported that the woman is an illegal resident who has been in Dubai for ten years. Officials said her son is also an illegal resident and does not have a passport.

She was arrested by Dubai Police at 1.20am on Monday (2 September).The woman has been a regular visitor to the Public Prosecution complaining about family problems with her husband in jail,according to reports. It has been claimed the woman's husband is in financial trouble.
