It was ladies night at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (28 August) as Katy
Perry, Britney Spears and Lady Gaga took home two honours apiece, but it was a
pregnant Beyonce who stole the show.

The pop superstar chose the glitzy Los Angeles awards ceremony to announce
her baby news to the world and, without actually winning an honour, she became
the night’s big talking point.

Otherwise, Lady Gaga left many onlookers puzzled by refusing to come out of
character as her alter-ego Jo Calderone for the entire ceremony.

Russell Brand served up a brutally honest tribute to tragic star Amy
Winehouse, revealing he once wrote her off as a “crazy” woman who wandered
around their native London until he heard her sing. His wife Katy, who had 10
videos up for prizes, took home two, including the Video of the Year for Firework,
but she lost the Best Pop Video honour to Britney, who also landed the Michael
Jackson Video Vanguard Award.
