Movie Review: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
Starring: Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis, Elijah Wood, Richard Armitage
This is the first of a three-part adaptation of the famous J R R Tolkien books. Set before The Lord of the Rings, the story returns to Middle Earth, and follows the young Bilbo Baggins, played by Brit Martin Freeman. He is convinced by Gandalf to join 13 dwarves on a special quest to reclaim Lonely Mountain from Smaug the dragon. Andy Serkis’ return as Gollum is the highlight, and Cate Blanchett is also back as Galadriel. Directed by Peter Jackson, the genius behind The Lord of the Rings trilogy has had a mixed reception and is lengthy, but if you’re into this kind of thing, it’s epic and unmissable.
