Morgan Freeman flies jet into UAE
Hollywood legend Morgan Freeman landed in the UAE on Tuesday (Dec 22) after co-piloting his new SJ30 jet all the way from Los Angeles.
The 72-year-old Oscar-winning actor showed his latest toy to the media at a press conference at the Dubai Airport Free Zone on yesterday (Dec 23).
Freeman acquired the plane from UAE-owned aircraft manufacturer Emivest Aerospace, which is based in the US. The SJ30 jet has a price tag of $7.4 million and up.
“It’s a really outstanding aircraft,” said Freeman, adding that private jets are a necessity and not a luxury for people like him who travel a lot. “It’s a huge money saver and time saver.”
Freeman got his pilot licence at the age of 65 in 2002. Earlier he has been a US Air Force mechanic.
Talking of the present, the actor’s happy with all the awards buzz and critical acclaim his latest movie has generated. Freeman plays Nelson Mandela in “Invictus”, a role that’s also earned him a Best Actor nomination at the Golden Globes.
“Getting nominated for an award is a great feeling. Being nominated is more important that winning an award,” he said.
However, what has made him happiest is Mandela’s positive reaction to the movie and the compliments he has received for the role.
