For this well-travelled Australian, living in the Italian-style Mirador villas is a happy reminder of her years spent residing in Rome. “The terracotta roof tiles and muted pink plaster on the outside walls are very European and remind me of happy days,” says Michelle. “We’ve even got a beautiful stone fireplace – although admittedly we haven’t used it much here in Dubai.”
Inside is a completely neutral canvas – from the white walls to the white Roman blinds – swathed in natural light. This has allowed Michelle to showcase her favourite pieces of art – many of which are from her home country.
“One of my favourite pieces is by Jos Myers, a Western Australian artist renowned for her iconic beach paintings,” says Michelle. “It’s particularly sentimental because it’s the beach on which my boys learnt to surf when they were younger.”
And from her years living in Italy she treasures an old bread cabinet bought from a small hillside village
in Tuscany. More retro and clearly statement pieces are Michelle’s four Christian Lyon Murano lamps. “They are special not only because they are unique, but I know, having visited Murano, just how much skill has gone into making them.”
