British-Iranian designer Mia Jafari has
made another splash on the fashion scene following her debut in 2010. Her
signature Ladybird Strawberry Cosmos scarf collection was a hit as was her
winning Strawberry Sour and Cupcake bra (sounds delicious to us) entry in the Bras
for a Cause Middle East design competition.
Now Mia has launched her SS12 collection,
is her first ready to wear range. The Central St Martins and Goldsmiths
graduate has created a playful range of silk dresses which were designed around
the spirit of romance.
The pieces in the Waterlilies collection
are finished with paint and embroidered with digital prints on georgette blouses, micro-mini ruffled
dresses and draped vintage-inspired silk dresses.
silhouette is deceptively simple, ballooned, pleated blouses worn under high-waist
skirts, with pockets and draping. Plus the fifties vintage cuts are given a
twist with knots, folds and drapes. Mia also employs the use of digi-droidery – a
method where Eastern embroidery meets cutting edge digital print. Swarovski
crystals, tricky hand embroideries and work on necklines are layered over digi-droidery
to create the feel of oversized embellishments.
