Meydan Beach Hits Back at Claims Café Del Mar "Nothing to Do" with Dubai Branch
A row has broken out over the opening of famous chillout-spot Café Del Mar At Meydan Beach at JBR in Dubai.
The people behind the original Café Del Mar in Ibiza, Carlos Andrea & José Les, claim on their website that the new venue is "misleading". They say, "We would like to inform that Café del Mar Ibiza has nothing to do with the Café del Mar Dubai advertised in Dubai press. It is misleadingly advertised that "Ibiza superbrand Café del Mar is arriving to Dubai".
They say, "Café Del Mar of Ibiza never authorized nor supported such operations."
However, the Dubai venue, which opened at the weekend, posted on its Facebook page, "Please ignore any rumours that this is not the 'real' Cafe del Mar. Meydan Beach, through its entertainment partner, has 100 per cent legally contracted with the UAE registered owner of the Café Del Mar brand to provide the full Café Del Mar experience."
It later posted a further statement from it’s entertainment partner, Viva Entertainment. It said, "Viva Entertainment spokesperson confirms, "‘the legal registered owner of the Café del Mar trademark in UAE is one of the original founders Ramon Guirel Bruto, with whom Viva Entertainment FZE have signed the exclusive rights for the Café del Mar brand for 20 years. As per UAE law we have signed with the registered owner of the brand, and are therefore confident that we have every legal right to operate the brand.”
The café opened in Ibiza in 1980 with the simple idea of putting chilled out music to stunning sunsets. It went on to launch the successful music label of the same name.
