Melissa Gilchrist Higgins
With Frontline Fashion, Brit-born, former PR executive, Higgins has combined her ardour for fashion and beauty with her broad altruistic streak. The online fashion and beauty magazine gives trendsetters an inside track on the next big thing - be it travel, style or see-and-be-seen spots, and donates all profits towards foundation projects like constructing a dormitory and an orphanage in Haiti, where Melissa volunteered after the 2010 earthquake.
“When working with an orphanage, you can’t really take your foot off the pedal and take a day off. Providing my Haiti babies with the everyday essentials we take for granted is what spurs me on,” says enthusiastic blonde fashionista-turned activist Melissa. “This is a project of love, not of finance.”
2011 saw her take her idea to the next level with the launch of her own fashion label, Zanmi (Haitian Creole for friends), with a series of T-shirts and totes emblazoned by the catchy slogan ‘Humanity is always in Style’.
